Award-Winning Entrepreneur Offers Advice on Starting a Business

No one ever said starting a business was easy - just ask Barbara Mulkey! She started Mulkey Engineers & Consultants in her home in 1993, with two young children and a husband whose job required frequent travel. Seventeen years later, her company is recognized as an industry leader and champion of family-friendly workplace policies. Mulkey shared the story of her success today at the Cardinal Club in Raleigh, part of the inaugural event for the Wake Tech/Wachovia Wells Fargo Center for Entrepreneurship.

Robert Kimball, mathematics instructor at Wake Technical Community College, has been awarded the 2010 Teaching Excellence Award by the North Carolina Mathematics Association of Two Year Colleges (NCMATYC). This is the first Teaching Excellence Award ever bestowed by the NCMATYC.

Young adults transitioning from the foster care system to college and independent living just got a tremendous boost: The Women's Network of Wake County has awarded $25,000 to the Fostering Bright Futures program at Wake Technical Community College. The program helps former foster youth in Wake County attend college and earn a degree.
