Wake Tech Students Receive Local Support for International Study

Fuquay-Varina Chamber of Commerce Contributes to Culinary Exchange Trip

Dr. Stephen Scott, Jeff Hadley, Tommy Broadwell RALEIGH, N.C. (January 5, 2012) - Students in Wake Tech’s Culinary Arts program got a little closer to real French cuisine today - with a $600 contribution from the Fuquay-Varina Chamber of Commerce. Chamber Director Tommy Broadwell presented the check to Dr. Stephen Scott, Wake Tech President, and Jeff Hadley, head of the Culinary Arts Department, to support the students’ planned study trip to France, in March.

As part of a Culinary Exchange program, the Wake Tech students will travel to Le Touquet, France, where they’ll work in local restaurants and learn about food preparation techniques and customer service. When they return, they’ll share their new skills and knowledge with classmates and instructors.

“International travel presents an incredible learning opportunity for our students,” says President Scott, “and we’re very grateful the Fuquay-Varina Chamber of Commerce has chosen to contribute so generously to this educational trip. Community support strengthens Wake Tech’s programs and enhances the educational experience - and that has lasting impact throughout our region.”

Chamber members, elected officials, and real estate professionals visited Wake Tech recently and had opportunity to sample the work of the culinary arts students. According to Broadwell, they were very impressed: “The quality of instruction at Wake Tech is outstanding, and students are obviously getting valuable experience and skills that will help them launch successful careers. The Chamber proudly supports the Wake Tech mission.”

The Culinary Arts students have hosted several fundraisers to cover costs for the trip to France and are continuing to accept donations. For more information call 866-5990 or visit http://culinary.waketech.edu .
