Wake Tech Honored by U.S. Small Business Administration
College Wins Partnership Award for Support of Small Business
RALEIGH, N.C. (November 25, 2009) - Wake Technical Community College is pleased to announce its selection as North Carolina Small Business Resource Partner of the Year for 2009 by the U.S. Small Business Administration. The SBA’s North Carolina District Office chose Wake Tech for the distinction because of its consistent support of small business in Wake County. Wake Tech President Dr. Stephen Scott accepted the award at the November 20 meeting of the N.C. Community College Adult Educators Association in Research Triangle Park.
“This award from the SBA is especially meaningful for Wake Tech,” says Dr. Scott, “because we believe so strongly in the entrepreneurial spirit of this community. Workforce training and support for local small business are fundamental to our mission as a community college.”
Since 2003, Wake Tech has partnered with the Small Business Administration on a strategy that places SBA representatives close to the businesses they serve. Ivan Hankins, SBA Regional Manager, says, “Our partnership with Wake Tech has given us a successful venue for connecting with local small businesses effectively.”
The Business and Industry Center (BIC), a part of Wake Tech’s Continuing Education Services, partners with the SBA through its Small Business Center, at the Western Wake Tech Campus in Cary, and its Entrepreneurship Center, at Wake Tech’s Northern Wake Campus. These centers provide resources for starting or expanding a small business, including classes, workshops, and one-on-one counseling. The services are offered at little or no cost to business owners and prospective entrepreneurs. For more information, please visit http://bic.waketech.edu.
